When did you start playing D&D?
I started playing in 2018 during my senior year of high school
What do you love most about D&D?
I love making expansive worlds with tons of fun lore for people to explore.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
I write sci-fi, play video games, and watch any nerdy movie or tv show I can find.
What is your most important natural 20?
Marrying my wife, Michelle.

What is your most important natural 20?
What else could it be? Starting a D&D company with his good friends.
Garrett Martin
When did you start playing D&D?
I started playing D&D in late July/early August in 2020, when Christian invited me to join a campaign he was running. I made my first character, a totally original human fighter, and fell in love with the game. I began DMing my own games in August of 2021, almost exactly a year after first playing the game. I’ve finished DMing a yearlong campaign, and am currently a player in three campaigns and DMing an additional two campaigns.
What do you love most about D&D?
If I had to pick one thing to be my favorite part of D&D, it would have to be the monsters. A ton of monsters have some really neat aspects in their stat blocks that can totally throw your players for a loop, and a lot of them can have some really interesting implications for combat and roleplay when introduced into your game. Fun fact: my favorite monster is the Nagpa, a wizard cursed to resemble a vulture.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
In terms of other nerdy stuff I’m into, I’m a big fan of RPGs and JRPGs. Persona 5 Royal, Octopath Traveler 2, and Another Crab’s Treasure are all some of my favorite games. I’m also a huge One Piece fan.
What is your most important natural 20?
My greatest nat20 has to be when I crit [seriously wounded] the final boss of the campaign Jonah, a fellow DM for Homebrew, was running. My divination wizard had rolled a 20 on one of their portent dice and once the final boss was on the ropes, I cast Blade of Disaster and dropped the portent crit, dealing 12d12 force damage to the dragon’s face.
Jonah Kosoy
When did you start playing D&D?
I started playing Dungeons and Dragons when I graduated high school in a campaign with my friends.
What do you love most about D&D?
My favorite aspects of dungeons and dragons are compelling storytelling with interesting and vibrant characters and settings that get the imagination working.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
Other things I love talking about is video games, especially Mario RPGs, game creation, music, and art.
What is your most important natural 20?

When did you start playing D&D?
So my first time playing D&D was at an old high school friend’s place with another friend when I was 18 or 19. I had NO CLUE what I was doing, but I remember my character was a High Elf Wild Magic Sorceress whose nickname was ‘Mama’. My friend’s mom ordered us pizza, and it was awesome.
What do you love most about D&D?
There’s so much I love about it, it’s hard to narrow it all down to just one thing. I love the creativity and imagination of it. I love roleplaying and watching my friends flirt with each other. I love coming up with completely insane energy characters with my friends. But most of all, I love the friends I’ve gotten to make through playing.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
I’m super into the Sims and Pokémon, amongst other various (mostly simulator or cutesy role-play) games. I also LOVE horror movie/video game lore. FNAF (Five Nights at Freddy’s – a video game series) is a deep love of mine, no matter how incomprehensible the plot is.
What is your most important natural 20?
The only thing that comes to mind for ‘Most Important Nat20’ is my little brother being born. I was 9, and being the youngest (both of my siblings, and my cousins) at the time, had wanted I little sibling so badly. Did I want a little sister, since I was the only girl at the time? Sure. Would I change who he is now? Absolutely not. I’m honestly so happy I have my little brother. He’s one of the most important people in my life, and it makes me so happy that I get to share my passion of D&D with him. Plus, he’s such a smart, talented, strong guy, I’m so insanely proud to be his big sister.
Robbie Albritton
When did you start playing D&D?
I “started” playing D&D a couple times with very uninformed and improvised games, using a deck of cards as a D20 at summer camp. Then I played a few slightly more informed one shots, and finally I played a full year long campaign with Garrett as our DM.
What do you love most about D&D?
I love character roleplay and power-building. I will gladly talk (and usually lie given my favorite character to play) my way through any encounter; but when forced into combat, there’s a reason “314 force damage” is a joke in my home group (that’s a lotta damage).
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
I’m into all sorts of nerdy stuff. Lots of different video games, (lots of souls games), anime, a ton of fantasy and sci-fi media… I like to think of myself as a sorta “Jack of all trades.”
What is your most important natural 20?
I think my favorite nat20 was actually at a recent event. I was rolling really poorly for about an hour when, while playing a barbarian, I surprisingly rolled a nat20 on an intelligence check against the big bad. It ended up being a really funny moment, with me playing as the dumbest party member ending up knowing the most about the antagonist.
Will Hartnett
When did you start playing D&D?
I’ve been playing D&D for over seven years. I started DMing in my freshman year of college.
What do you love most about D&D?
I’ve been in love with building entire worlds from the ground up, and seeing how the players change and interact with it. As much as the story is written by the DM, the players change the narrative. Nothing is truly set in stone.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
Other than D&D, I am into video games, mainly JRPGs (Japanese Role-Playing Game) and other story-rich games. That, or you can find me chilling on the farm in Stardew Valley. I am also into anime and tokusatsu.
What is your most important natural 20?
My most important nat20 was against an ancient black dragon who was the BBEG (Big Bag Evil Guy/Gal). He and my character were locked in a freefall, trying to grab an orb. I managed to grab the orb from his clutches. The ancient black dragon reversed time to try and hold onto the orb. I rolled a nat20 and pried it from him as we both fell towards the ground.
Yosh Krupa
When did you start playing D&D?
I started playing DND with my older brother CJ when I was about 16 years old.
What do you love most about D&D?
I love how I get to be creative and show my players the story that I made for them.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
- I’m also into Star Wars, video games of all sorts, and a huge fan of mythology.
What is your most important natural 20?
My most important nat20 is probably when I was DMing my main campaign with my friends and the DMPC (Dungeon Master’s player character). I needed to have a successful intelligence check, or they would all be trapped inside where they would die. I was willing to kill them all, but didn’t even have to!
Layne McIntosh
When did you start playing D&D?
I was actually introduced to the world of Dungeons and Dragons when I met my people here at Homebrew. Since early 2023, I’ve played only a handful of one shots with everyone, however I remember my first “How would you like to do it?” It was a pretty awesome experience, even if it was a super casual game.
What do you love most about D&D?
I love the character creation process, from start to finish. I also love talking to our DMs about their secrets and goals for campaigns, especially our Interstellar Apocalypse (check it out on YouTube!) Knowing all of the intricacies of the stories and the characters within them is so satisfying to learn about.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
I love reading books and webcomics. I also love writing and graphic design. I can get really into playing the Sims, and I’m looking forward to starting more video games with my friends. Anime is pretty cool, and I love watching movies (although I have a lot of catching up to do).
What is your most important natural 20?
I think every experience is open to being the most important. However, I think that my most recent important nat20 was snagging my current partner.
Michelle Pfoltzer
When did you start playing D&D?
I started playing in the fall of 2018, after I met Christian.
What do you love most about D&D?
The DRAMA, roleplaying the DRAMA!!
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
I love writing fiction, playing video games, and watching anime. I’m a huge fan of Lord of the Rings as well!

Nicholas Whitmore
When did you start playing D&D?
I started playing D&D in fall of 2016. I was entering into my senior year of high school at the time. I had no idea what I was doing (and I still don’t), but the character creation process fascinated me. It seemed like so much of the experience comes down to how you build your character, which created a point of interest for me in making characters for years to come.
What do you love most about D&D?
What I love about D&D is in its opportunities for both community and roleplay. I’ve always held this belief that humans are inherently social creatures, we thrive in social settings (which best fit our personalities), and D&D allows us to essentially play pretend with friends and strangers. It’s a group puzzle solving, role playing, bit creating event. Any session can be its own; I’ve had sessions where players were so deeply invested that they cried from the sheer dramatic weight of a situation, and I’ve had sessions where players intentionally BM each other and the DM finds a way to work it into the story. In the hands of a skilled DM the story can change, broaden or shrink, can be influenced into something completely different than what it started out as; and it all comes down to the story you, the player, want to have with your friends. That’s what I love about D&D.
What other nerdy stuff are you into?
D&D is one of many things that I can wax poetic about. It’s right up there with movies, comic books, specific video games I played as a child, and music. I identify as a nerd that’s really into the things I like, and I try to encourage that same passion and interest in things that other people like- when appropriate. Thankfully, I grew up in the nerd-boom of the late 2000s into 2010s when nerd culture was assimilating into the mainstream. So in the same way it was safe for me to express my nerdiness at a time when it was allowed for me in the culture, I want to foster that same space for the people around me with their nerdiness however it may take shape.
